Liverpool produced a stunning performance against Swansea City to beat the Swans by a clear 5 goal margin at Anfield. With Swansea having a league cup final against Bradford City at Wembley next week to look forward to, manager Michael Laudrup opted to field a weakened team for this match. However, it turned to be a total disaster as Reds ran riot around the Swansea team having a total of 35 shots at Michael Vorm’s goal resulting into 5 goals.
Daniel Sturridge and Phillipe Coutinho both missed sitters for Liverpool in the first and it was looking the same old story for Reds again as they continued to dominate the possession but were unable to open the scoring. However, Luis Suarez was judged to be fouled inside the penalty area resulting into a penalty which club captain Steven Gerrard calmly converted to erase the painful memories of the penalty miss against West Brom last Monday.
The first half ended at 1-0 but Liverpool came out flying in the second half and scored 3 goals within first 11 minutes of after the restart. Coutinho scored his debut goal after a fine solo effort whereas Jose Enrique scored after an amazing team work between Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez and himself. Suarez himself got on the score sheet after a tremendous show of skill and pace to score the well deserved goal. The ball from Downing was also an inch perfect killer pass. Reds got another penalty on the 70th minute after Swansea player deliberately handled the ball inside the penalty area. Steven Gerrard presented the ball to Daniel Sturridge who made no mistake to score from the spot kick. With this win, Liverpool are now on 7th place in the league.
