We are just 3 days into the New Year and many big clubs have already made their mark by signing players to strengthen their squads. First deal to be done in this window was Daniel Sturridge moving to Anfiled from Chelsea for an estimated fee of around 12 Million Euros.
The 23 year old England International already had a medical test at Melwood Training Centre last week and all other formalities of the contract were wrapped up early on Wednesday morning. Manager, Brendan Rodgers will be delighted to secure the services of Sturridge after missing out on Clint Demspey on the last day of summer transfer window. Liverpool Football Club have confirmed that Daniel Sturridge will wear the vacant number 15 Shirt for the Reds.
The next big deal of the day came with Chelsea triggering the release clause of Demba Ba’s contract by bidding a 7 Million Euros bid for the Senegalese striker. Ba who has already scored 13 goals in Premier League this season is now undergoing contract talks with Chelsea Officials. Alan Pardew confirmed after his side’s disappointing loss against Everton that, the deal to take Ba to Chelsea has been done and the player will leave St James Park with their blessing. However, Magpies were swift in making their own signing with French International Mathieu Debuchy closing in on a deal with the club. The right back was in the crowds watching Newcastle loss to a tremendous Everton comeback after falling behind to a very earyly Papiss Cisse’s goal.
Another player who is on the verge of securing a move away is Joe Cole who is having a medical at West Ham after turning a lucrative offer from QPR. The Hammers are short in numbers with their squad getting trimmed from injuries to key players. Cole who left West Ham to join Chelsea in 2003 joined Liverpool as a free agent after spending 7 years with the Blues. The 31 year old winger now looks set to rejoin his former club from where he started his professional football career.
